Whimsical, colorful, decadent. That's how Madeline describes her hosting style, and on this rooftop, all three show up before you've even sat down. A hug at the door, a welcome spritz in hand, and a table set with ceramics stacked in layers of color.

The Process

“I love incorporating fresh, seasonal and local produce into both my tablescapes, drinks, and menu, and my favorite way of doing that this summer is making a spritz with less traditional ingredients as the base.”

Madeline’s Watermelon-Cherry Spritz

2 cups of fresh watermelon, diced (never frozen)
2 tablespoons of sour cherry compote (or tart cherry juice)
4 mini slices of fresh watermelon
Prosecco
sparkling water
ice
fresh mint

Blend the diced fresh watermelon and cherry compote in a blender until slightly pulpy, but smooth.
Pour evenly into the bases of four Wine Glasses, then add ice.
Pour in 1/4 bottle of Prosecco into each glass, and top with sparkling water.
Add a sprig of fresh mint and a mini watermelon slice to each glass as garnish.
