The Details Matter
For more than 80 years, our makers have been working with high quality materials from FSC-certified forests, preserving the earth from which they’re sourced. Through expert craftsmanship with an innovative heat-treating process, here’s how each piece is brought to life.
The Materials
Each piece is crafted from fine European ash wood that’s FSC-certified and sustainably sourced. Before it’s used, the raw wood undergoes a thermal treatment to remove excess moisture, making it lighter in weight while giving it superior durability, stability, moisture resistance, and its deep brown hue. Sawdust and wood waste are repurposed as fuel for heating in the winter, and distributed to the livestock sector in the summer.
The Process
First, the ash wood is heat-treated to 210°C to extract moisture, which increases its durability and stability and prevents moisture absorption. The treated wood is then laminated together, creating a stronger surface to prevent warping over time. Each piece is then cut and shaped using a combination of state-of-the-art software and innovative machines. Finally, the Fable logo is etched into the wood. The finished pieces are then treated with a non-toxic, food-safe blend of natural oils and resins to preserve their natural hues and prevent staining.
